Kate Bush recently hit #1 on the British single chart, with Running Up That Hill from her 1985 album Hounds of Love. The song has received a lot of attention after being featured in the latest season of Netflix’ Stranger Things.
David Gilmour received a demo tape of Kate Bush in 1974 through a mutual friend. David decided to record 3 of the tracks for a professional demo and presented it to EMI, Pink Floyd’s record company, who ended up signing Bush.
In this clip from late March 1987, David Gilmour is joining Kate Bush in a rare live appearance of Running Up That Hill for the The Secret Policeman’s Third Ball charity event.
David is playing a Steinberger GL3T, which is modified with EMG SA single coils, a SPC active tone control and David’s preferred custom shortened tremolo arm. The front of the guitar, being made of fibre reinforced composite, was replaced by a custom made allowing for the typical Fender style 5-way pickup selector as well as a mini switch for engaging the SPC control.
This guitar was also used for the then ongoing A Momentary Lapse of Reason recording sessions and notably used on Sorrow.
