In this review I’m exploring the T7E Baby from Foxgear.
The T7E Baby is based on the Binson Echorec Baby that were made famous by Syd Barrett and Hank Marvin, among others, in the late 60s.
Like all Binson style models from Gurus and Foxgear, the T7E Baby produce warm, analog echo sounds reminiscent of the Memory Man, with all the features of the Binson Echorec machine.
The T7E Baby is a very impressive unit, with lush and organic sounds that’s definitely capable of reproducing all of the classic Binson sounds of the early era Pink Floyd.
Hi Bjorn, do you think Foxgear sounds better than Catalinbread Echorec?
Two different pedals. The Foxgear is like a darker soundig analog delay type, close to the Memory Man, with Binson features. The Catalin is brighter, like the Binson.
Interestingly… I don’t hear much difference between this an any other decent delay
Hi Bjorn! I got my T7E Baby today. Featurewise the thing is truely impressive. But what I recognise is a fizzy, digital noise on an attack when playing through it directly in front of my audio-interface even on its lowest levels. Pulling back the guitar volume reduces that but makes the sound a bit muddy so playing with a nice, clean tone is quite impossible. I knew about the sometimes noisy repeats but wondering if this is a normal behavior of the T7E Baby….have you made the same experiences with your unit ?
Hi, no I don’t have any issues with it but then again, I haven’t plugged it straight into an interface. Maybe it’s an impedance issue? Contact them. They usually answer right away.
I just got my Foxgear T7E Baby pedal and was very impressed with it EXCEPT, I’m getting the exact same kind of fizzy distortion that Olaf describes above. To me it sounds like something, maybe the input of the peal is clipping or overloading. There is no way to get rid of it even with all of the levels and controls set to zero. I’m hoping there is a fix, like a trim pot that I can adjust on the inside of the pedal? It would be a shame if this is just how they are as this fizzy distortion makes the pedal useless in my opinion. It’s otherwise fantastic. Crossing my fingers.
I haven’t noticed that. I need to check. Contact Foxgear. They usually respond right away.
Yes, I have been in contact with Foxgear and they are having the engineers check it out. I will report back. Thanks Bjorn for your excellent website!
After emailing back and forth with Foxgear in Italy, they didn’t have an answer so I ended up returning it. I’ve since had a few online interactions with others who had the same problem. I ended up getting a Belle Epoch Deluxe instead. Great pedal!
Same problem here. Always a fizzy issu. on stereo i have a radical drop of the overall volume. I try to contact Foxgear and no answer.
Hi there y’all,
I’ve had the same issue as well on the pedal which I had received right before Xmas. Tried everything under the sun to get rid of it and ended up returning it. Bummer, as I was really hoping to have some sort of backup to my Strymon Volante, which I could also use for keyboard stuff if I wanted to…
The delay times are longer than the original – does this make a big difference? I’m thinking of the intro to Time or Syds Theme when David used heads 3 & 4 – 225ms & 300ms. With the T7E Baby you would need to use head 2 & 3 but that would give you 200ms and 300ms. Thanks for all the awesome info and reviews!
I’ve demonstrated this in the video. It’s fully capable to produce all of David’s Binson tones and time settings.
Based on your review, I decided to purchase this pedal. Unfortunately I don’t have any way of trying it out for myself, and in my opinion, your experience, knowledge and playing style make you the best and most reliable source.
Thanks for the kind words!
Thanks Bjorn. Nice tone. Clean (compared to old gears) yet sophisticated and colourful. Have you used any of these high quality processing gears for your in the box production (i.e. using your soundboard’s output and input to loop through and bring it back to another track in Logic Pro? I know it requires impedance conversion but I think it’s worth it. Nothing is quite like a high quality analogue processing but then you have a bit of freedom for tone shaping afterwards. You need to split the signal and record a dry version in parallel and then use the insert out / in that loops through the pedal if your soundboard allows. Anyway, sorry for being off the topic but I couldn’t help it. It sounds so damn good to make use of such great pedals in other ways. Cheers.
I haven’t explored that myself but we’ve done different things in the studio while recording for our albums. I depend on an engineer to come up with these things. I’m just a guitar player ha ha!
Groovy little jam! Thanks for showing a variety of techniques.
Cheers!
Thanks, Bjorn! Ok, here’s what everyone wants to know: how does this stack up against the boonar? The foxgear is considerably cheaper, and I’m considering each. Thanks again.
They’re pretty similar featurewise. The Baby sound closer to a Memory Man, while the Boonar has more of that clean and bright Binson tone.
