• David Gilmour agrees to perform with Roger Waters again???

Roger Waters confirms on his Facebook page today that David has agreed – in fact suggested it him self – to play guitar on Comfortably Numb on one of Roger’s Wall shows! According to Roger, they haven’t agreed on a date or venue yet.

    From Roger Waters’ Facebook page:

“Some weeks passed with David cajoling me from time to time, telling me how easy it would be, but I clung resolutely to my fear of failure until one day he made one final entreaty. I quote “If you do ‘To Know Him Is To Love Him’ for The Hoping Foundation Gig, I’ll come and do ‘C. Numb’ on one of your Wall shows”. Well! You could have knocked me down with a feather. How fucking cool! I was blown away.”

“PS. Just heard from David, he will decide in due course which gig he wants to do, it will be a surprise!”

    Stay tuned for more info…

    Video on Roger’s Facebook!!!!

  3. Danny S. says:

I’m going to the concert in Atlanta. I hope David is too :)

  4. Luca says:

It’s very hard to guess where the “magic gig” with dave will be.. You all say England but think that it would be quite obviuos for Dave to play there and would make not so big surprise.. Think about particular locations.. However, THIS IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE!!! The solution is simple, attend all the gigs!! lol

  5. Kent says:

Atlanta, Atlanta, Atlanta… he whispers as he shoots a quick prayer to God.

  6. Martin says:

Well nothing to say-I’m from Bulgaria they will never come here sooo…good luck to you :DDD. O and guys dont be afraid to change things a little bit, its impossible to get the SAME tone like Dave but f**k it just play guitar.I don’t have the money for all things- hey I’m playing on a Squier bullet strat and Line 6 POD 2.0 and i know what i can do with it and im going ahead.Yes I’ll be happy to have HIWATT but thats it you do things that you love with the things you got.Bjorn brother the best as always you know it.O can you see the POD 2.0 amps (line6.com) and suggest some of them foe Dave’s tone. Thanks

  7. Chris says:

I’m glad and relieved that David and Roger have made amends and come a full circle. We need you down here in Australia!

Pink Floyd: The Black Strat – revised edition coming soon
    Written by Matt
    Monday, 26 July 2010

Pink Floyd: The Black Strat book – 3rd editionMany of you will be aware of “The Black Strat: A History Of David Gilmour’s Black Fender Stratocaster”, the superb book written by Phil Taylor, David’s long-term guitar technician, studio manager, production director and much more [review here]. It takes a careful and detailed look at one of rock’s most iconic instruments, very ably written by the only man to know Pink Floyd’s equipment better than the band. Rather than a dry, technical manual, suited only to those who already know guitars inside and out, it is a rewarding and accessible book that Pink Floyd fans the world over will thoroughly enjoy, packed with truly rare pictures that you won’t have seen before.

Now expanded to 208 pages, a fully revised edition is coming out on September 15th (North America) and October 1st (UK and Europe). It contains new information as well as many more unpublished photographs, recently come to light, that further chart the Black Strat’s illustrious history. Amending and elaborating on the previous edition, it also continues the story where the last one left off with David’s recent live appearances, information, and photographs – including David testing the Fender Black Strat replica models; performances with David Bowie, Jeff Beck, and others; and much more

  9. Curtis K says:

Omfg if there is one time I ever got to see Gilmour live I hope this is it!! October 27 in Minneapolis!!

  10. Arnni says:

I feel the same club hands magee, i can’t believe he’ll do one song and thats it maybe last half…it just seems pointless to me! but it will be amazing still!!! I’m sure if David can randomly do atom heart mother after declaring it ‘crap’ then he’ll easily play the whole album that he feels gets lost in the second half!!!

  11. Thomas Adams of MIRAGE says:

You can pretty much count on that unless David is planning to join Roger for the entire tour, it will be in England. I mean why transport all of his gear to somewhere that might be a pain in the ass? I firmly believe that it’ll be in England. Which sucks out loud for us, (AMERICANS) who did a lot of bread buttering for both David and Roger. We always hear about it later. However, back in the late 1980s when the new Pink Floyd released their “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” album, and Roger Waters had his “Radio Waves” “Radio KAOS” tour, I saw Pink Floyd at JFK stadium in Philadelphia and they couldn’t use their props (except the pig) for some reason so they played a completely different show than the next 5 shows that they booked at The Spectrum. So I ended up seeing 6 Pink Floyd shows in a row! But the first night at JFK they took the stage and the first noise other than a rabid crowd that I heard was “PLINK”- I was like “is that… could that be…” then again “Plink”. ECHOES! in its entirety!!! Not like they do it now, this show was like the Animals tour! I was way up in front on the grass and witnessed the best show EVER! Before that show, in the parking lot, a guy was selling little squares of paper with many colored lines on them called “Radio Waves” a couple of those found their way into my brain and the JFK show was ABSOLUTELY PSYCHEDELIC!!! The next 5 shows at the spectrum were all very rehearsed. Starting with “Shine On” every night and closing with “Comfortably Numb” every night.
Then the next day after Pink Floyd was finished, Roger Waters came and played one show at The Spectrum. I got to see both the Floyd and Waters. Guess who was better.
So the point is you’ll have to wait and see what happens and where it happens. Let me know what it was like!

[Thanks for sharing Thomas! – Bjorn]

  12. Melinda says:

PLEASE let it be KCMO October 30th! PLEASE OH PLEASE! That is very f’ing cool indeed…regardless of where he will pop up. Just more proof that Gilmour is a totally cool cat.

  13. Alberto says:

    Hi buddies! Hola a todos!
I am late and just read THE NEW!! WOW!!
Well, I think that DG will play in a complete show and it will be in the UK, maybe Berlin (not bad option) and in the third play France (the Floyd and France have had a good relation through the years).Anyway not in Barcelona. Come on David let’s play in the country of the new football world champions :) !!!

  14. Fantastic! This is all a bonus! I agree (with Arnni’s comment above) that there’s a 90% chance that David will play in London due to locality etc. I predict he’ll do the second to last night (15th May) to “suprise” everyone who’ll expect the 17th… but the I’ve a strong gut feeling he’ll do that one “as well!” as I asume this announcement is creating a frenzied intrest (plenty of “BREAD!” for Ol’Rog’eh!) songs: “Comfortably Numb” & (smiley faced duel vocals)”Run Like Hell” due to David’s writting credits! (hope to see the see the “workmate” Tele make a appearence?)

Roger has commented recently in regards to his creative hiatus that he’s got lots of ideas & no lack of material but has not found a”collaborator”… isn’t it tantalising that with these friendly developments It now wouldn’t be suprised at all if David provided guitar parts for his next “concept”??? as David’s always acknowledged even during the cold war that he considered the greatest elements were Roger’s driving-force & the emotive phrases that fell out of his Guitar!..here’s hoping!!!

  15. Josue Tamayo says:

Que fueran en los conciertos de la Cd. de Mexico… sería mucho pedir?

Ni modo… me encantaría conocer en persona al Sr. Gilmour!

  16. Leiaa says:

that’s it..I am gonna explode with tears when this happens.

    [You’re not alone :) – Bjorn]

  17. Michael says:

This is some fantastic news indeed! I highly doubt David will flat out say Ohio (the concert i’m going to), but it’s possible. I just hope whatever show David picks will be an early one because, well who knows, he could have alot of fun and decide to do the whole tour with Roger. But like you said Bjorn, I don’t see David even on the same tour bus with Roger and his band.

  18. Renán says:

In the David’s website says that they both have a charity gig for the children of gaza, with Guy Pratt, Harry Waters, Andy Newmark, Chester Kamen and Jonjo Grisdale, they play To known him is to love him, Wish you were here, Comfortably numb y another brick in the wall (part 2)

[See the post below for all details :) – Bjorn]

  19. Mark says:

    Brilliant news :D

If only I could go :(

  20. TQuay says:

Fantastic news for all! Good job on Time and I was wondering if you would do a section on the acoustic guitars used by Pink Floyd. For example, the twelve string guitar for Wish you Were Here must have been used for the whole album but back to a six string for Animals and the Wall. Also, who is playing guitar on Is there Anybody Out There? if Roger Waters wrote the music? ANd how about the Nashville tuning on the Comfortably Numb Guitars. Some Ideas-thanks

[Thanks for the suggestion! I’m planning several features on David’s guitars including acoustics and the more unusual stuff. Most of what you’re asking above is listed in the Album Gear Guides though :) See each individual album for details. Cheers! – Bjorn]

  21. Bart says:

So happy right now! What a treat!

  22. Brad says:

wow. what great news. I am 17 years old now, David Gilmour inspired me to play guitar, and Roger Waters, who in my eyes is one of the greatest song writers ever! When I heard Roger was coming to Atlanta, Georgia I freaked out! I live in Alabama but its worth the trip!!! This will be the first time in my entire life I get to see one of my idols live! My mom and dad saw Pink Floyd when I was just 2 during the P.U.L.S.E tour, but Ive never got to. So this is a BIG treat for me! I highly doubt David will be at the one Im going to, but its ROGER WATERS we are talking, the very man who wrote most of DSOTM, The Wall, and many many great Floyd and solo songs! So I cant wait for this!! Thanks for the great site Bjorn! God Bless!

  23. Alex says:

Man ! Do you imagine ? I got a pair of ticket to see his the wall’s show in montreal (the place who make he decide to make the wall) if gilmour play with him, am sure he will be at montreal ! I’ll do all the thing I can do to have his autograph lol !

  24. Steve says:

It’s nice to see them getting along beyond the Live 8 gig! Too bad Rick Wright isn’t with us to see it! I’m sure they eventually would’ve done a Farewell tour together.
I’m sure this has all come about because Roger finally admited in his own words “How arrogant he was to proclaim the band as over”. And regrets how it all came about. I admire him for his strength of character & good humour to have been the one to make peace with the other 3. And it seems the they appreciate it as well!
I recomend you all watch their induction into the UK rock ‘n’ roll hall of fame on YouTube!

  25. Arnni says:

    Great news

Personally i believe it will be a UK Date, Cant see david wanting to travel.. TBH i believe it will be on the saturday of the London shows. I have tickets for last show in London and first in manchester i jut can’t see it being out side UK.

Second i doubt he’ll do one song… not worth bring all the gear and getting a mad rush to do one song!!! and come off!!! He’ll do a whole show and that be it! or he’ll do comfortably numb onwards…. ! just seems so unlikely to do one… if it was an encore then yea but its like 3/4 way in the whole set hardly worth it for him but…. thats my speculation!!! I mean can you imagine him using Kiliminster’s gear??? or snowys?

[He’d never play on anyone else’s gear… even if it’s for just one song. – Bjorn]

  26. Joe says:

I cannot WAIT until Roger comes to Tampa this year (November 16). My gut is hoping that David will just join him on the tour after doing a couple shows.

    Someone call Nick Mason!!!!

  27. Stebvie says:

    Fantastic news!!!
hopefully this reunion will involve Nick Mason too, and lead to some kind of commercial release so we can all enjoy it.

  28. João J. Francisco says:

These two “old children” waited for Rick’s death to start play…

I’m very happy with the news, but I miss RicK…

  29. acib708 says:

If he chooses a date in Mexico I’m going to cry like a sissy girl, not kidding. Fuck, I can’t wait til the concert, it’s going to be great.

  30. Thomas M. says:

That would be pretty damn cool to see Gilmour and Mason play one whole show. It would be awesome seeing David play songs like Mother, Young Lust, Another Brick In The Wall I, II, III. Hell, it’d be Awesome to see him play all of the songs! LOL

  31. Justin says:

Who needs Pink Floyd if we got Justin Bieber, hahaha.

  32. Marco Del Longo says:

when i read this news this morning on roger’s facebook pages, I started to pray that the gig will be the one on milan april 1st… the one i will see…but I know it won’t be…however I really like the final words: “…end of story. or possibly beginning…” what do you think about these words?

  33. Jegærn says:

OH MY GOD how friggggggin cool is that?!?!?! Very nice to hear that they`r buddies again! David will not join the Norway show but i`ll stopp eating for a year to get a ticket to the Wall show ; )

[Would have been awesome to see him at Telenor Arena eh? Doubt that will happen though LOL. Cheers! – Bjorn]

  34. James Cameron says:

I am very glad to hear that DG will perform with Roger Waters at one of the Wall shows. I am actually hoping David and Nick will be there for an entire show at maybe one of the London performances and perhaps they could make a DVD of that show.
They could also do the show for Charity if they are so inclined.
Anyway you look at it , it’s good to see David and Roger playing together again in my opinion.

[That would be insanely cool! Still… a whole show… both Nick and David better start practicing LOL! – Bjorn]

  35. Great news for those lucky enough to be there…
If Roger is short of a guitarist or two i would love to
    fill in…ha ha..In our dreams..
I did see PF doing the Wall.
David was picked out by a pencil type spot light from the furthest point from the stage whilst doing C/Numb…
    Just brilliant….

  36. Andy Piercy says:

I kinda thought this might happen, but it’s very good news just the same. I suspect it will be London, but come on Dave, give the provinces a chance – Manchester MEN 20th????

  37. mens says:

    May 12 2011 London O2 Arena….That´s the date!!!!!!!!!

  38. Chris K says:

I want to see this so much but simply cant afford it at the minute.

  39. Simon Williams says:

Cor, you don’t check the site for a few weeks, and what happens? Gilmour and Waters only get on a bloody stage together again! Excuse me now while I collapse with shock!

  40. Alex Mircica Gunslinger says:

London May 12th come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m in Row 8 for I have seen Roger live three times but never seen David or Floyd (aside from the Odeon screening of his DVD) Please!!!!!!

To be honest even if it isn’t then this is amazing news for everyone, let the past lie. Well done chaps!

  41. Dave says:

Very COOL, but I doubt it will be at the Buffalo, NY USA show.
Since thats the 1 I’m going to.
But some lucky fans will get a treat somewhere.

  42. Mike McPherson says:

It’s like I’ve been sayin’, Roger has wanted something like this for years, and now it’s finally coming around. I think (or hope) what will happen is the addition of another show (again, I’m thinking Albert Hall) that will feature David and Nick doing a one or two night deal. A farewell of sorts for the Floyd. It would make for one hell of a DVD and live album. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I’ve toyed in the bizz and that’s how I would do it.

  43. Martin says:

    I’ll be there!!

  44. Nuno Simões says:

The disapointing thing is… he’ll never do it in Portugal. =(

  45. Randall says:

It better be October 24th in Detroit!!!

  46. Peter says:

that is great!!! it would be nice if David would do his gig next year in belgium antwerpen sportpaleis, the 27 may, i got the ticket and it’s on my birthday. i had a chickenskin when i have read this news, i jumped in the air, this is the best news of years that i’ve heard, really.
this news is a great gift for me.

manny thanks to David and Roger.

    peace for all.

  47. Luciano says:

Well, it’s more or less what we were expecting, isn’t it? A one-off show with David guesting in one song…

But, then again, things may evolve from that.

In fact, what makes me really happy is to know that they are making friends to each other again. They are not just on speaking terms, as it seems. The whole story, as told by Roger, is very light-hearted.

Maybe Rick’s sudden death made them realize that such a thing could happen to them too, before burying the hatchet. It was this sort of feeling, probably, that led to the Live8 reunion.

    But I digress…

Just wanna say: F***ing AMAZING NEWS!!!!! :))))

  48. Rozq says:

This is great news. Would love to see them tour together.

  49. Markku says:

This is better than nothing though I was hoping for something more.

  50. evel1 says:

When and where ever it happens, very “fucking cool” indeed! Great week to be a Gilmour/Waters fan.

  51. Gary B Swift says:

Sure would be nice if they could invite Nick to sit in on drums for that one…

  52. Beth says:

I think I’m going to cry.

  53. Hugo says:

Si pero seguramente será en Inglaterra y no dirán en cual concierto..

Yes.. but this surely would happen in England and its likely that they won’t say in which concert… If I happens to know the date.. perhaps I make an effort ($) to travel and see them play..just one more song..

  54. Pablo says:

Excelente!! Qué bien encaminado que parece estar todo… :)

Estas noticias me ponen de buen humor…
