Live at Pompeii 2016 Settings and Setups

Read more: gear run-down

Settings and setups are based on pictures and footage from the event that, to some extent, are subject to interpretation. David often make adjustments along the way and may not even be consequent in how he’s using the equipment. This feature should therefore only be used as a guideline for your own setup and not as a gospel.

Big Muff Ram’s Head
volume 10:30/35%, tone 1:30/65% (treble left, bass right), sustain 1:30/65
(settings taken from Kit Rae’s David Gilmour tone building)

Big Muff Civil War
volume 1:30/55%, tone 12:30/65% (bass left, treble right), sustain 7:00/100%
(settings taken from Kit Rae’s David Gilmour tone building)

Tube Driver 1 (#1 distortion)
level 1:00, hi 12:00, lo 4:00, drive 3:00

Tube Driver 2 (#2 boost)
level 1:00, hi 1:00, lo 1:00, drive 9:00

Tube Driver 3 (#3 overdrive)
level 11:00, hi 12:00, 1:00, drive 1:00

Note: David use the Tube Drivers for different tones and in combination with other pedals. Keep in mind that compressors, EQs and adjusting the guitar volume change their character and amount of gain, so one pedal can produce multiple tones.

Electric Mistress
rate 30%, range 60%, colour 20% (these settings applies to the 1976-79 version only)

Compressor
– David has three compressor units featured in the rig set up for different applications. In most cases it’s always a combination with one of the compressors and cleans, milder overdrives and slides in particular. Compressor settings always depend on the pickups, amp, effects, venue and your playing technique, so be sure to always match your compressors to this.

Equalizers
– David has three EQ units in the rig set up for different applications. EQ settings always depend on the pickups, amp, what effects you combine them with and the venue so be sure to always match your EQs to this.

Uni-Vibe
– volume 2:00, intensity 12:00, slow speed 2:00, fast speed 4:00 (o’clock), mode: chorus

Note: This is an original UniVox Uni-Vibe customised into a rack unit by Phil Taylor. The unit has a toggle switch for fast and slow speed to compensate for the expression pedal. The speed can be adjusted with separate controls.

Delay
– David’s delays are mostly set with a lower volume or mix compared to previous tours. This adds to the presence and slightly more aggressive tones ha had on the tour but it also makes it difficult to point out accurate delay settings. Some of the songs also feature complex patches or combined units for different textures and simulation of the old Binson multiple head tones.

Here are some generic settings based on earlier tours:
1968 – 1975: 310ms
1977 – 1981: 440ms
Run Like Hell: 380ms
Slides, Comfortably Numb, Sorrow: 750ms

Please note that not all effect setups and settings are visible on the official footage. Rather than trying to guess, I’ve used generic terms to describe the effect and tone.
